For me the word "Junkin" has always meant a fun early morning adventure. I remember the times as a youngster scouring thrift shops and antique stores with my mother who is a seasoned junker. We would walk the aisles methodically in search of the perfect "whatever" we happened to be looking for.
Once I remember finding a birdhouse that mom just absolutely fell in love with. She was so upset that she didn't find it first that I eventually just gave it to her to get her to stop harping about it! We still laugh about that to this day.
Mom and I would also go "Dumpster Diving" back in the day when stores and shops would throw out some great stuff. Sometimes we would find brand new items still in the packaging that had to be gotten rid of just to make room for newer inventory. Other times we would find great vintage shelves, boxes, and decorations that we could spruce up and easily make into something new.
I no longer dumpster dive but I still enjoy a fun afternoon of junkin from time to time. Two of my most memorable finds were the antique china cupboard and a whole cache of vintage jewelry pictured in the photos below. Aaaah...those were the days!

It must be where I live, I NEVER find anything really cool and the few times I do see something it is so over priced it is crazy.
ReplyDeleteI think the only reason I find such great stuff is that my partner in crime (my mom) is the best thrift shopper, antiquer, and junker around and she always points me to the best places to find the good stuff :)
ReplyDeleteWow great finds. I sometimes snag some great deals thrifting. It's so fun when you find something so amazing for like pennies! Cute cupboard!
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
Allison
I have so many different sets of dishes that this little cupboard was a real blessing to find! I was completely out of room to store them and this little diddy saved the day!
ReplyDeleteNice to "meet" you! I don't think I have ever dived into a dumpster, but I shop the curbs and allies all the time. Today I did dive just a bit into the recycle bin at my building. Glad nobody saw me! Those jewels are really something! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteYour jewelry is so neat! Thanks for sharing your junk...

ReplyDeleteMarie! Just tried to visit your site but the URL is apparently broken?
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny Cindy, about dumpster diving. My dh and I used to actually have a route! We found the best treasures. Wish we lived closer...we'd have a blast together!
ReplyDeleteA route! Wow and I thought I was a pro. We should teach a class huh? Dumpster Diving 101. Unfortunately, now alot of the stores have those sealed dumpsters and if not they will sometimes purposely damage the merchandise just so no one can get it...how sad:(
