Please Exscuse My Technology Rant!

What has technology done to us! I am so annoyed this evening by anything and everything technology! I am tired of trying to watch television shows that are continually interrupted by cell phone commercials touting the next and newest whatever! They shove constant messages and innuendos down my throat telling me that I need this phone or that phone with this operating system or that APP! You would think that the endless barrage of commercials would end once everyone bought the dang thing but NO now you have to get the newest version so that you can Twitter and Facebook all while being connected to Wifi and blah..blah...blah.

And another thing! If I see one more teenager walking down the street with and Ipod shoved in his ear and a cell phone glued to his hands, emitting sparks from his hyper-texting fingers I AM GOING TO SCREAM! What are we doing to our kids! Our children and especially our boys are seriously deficient in verbal communication skills due to all of this techno-stuff that they have become accustomed...rather, addicted to! When was the last time you tried to talk to a teenager that was not attached to some kind of electronic device be it a cell phone, Ipod, video game or television?

I wonder how our young people will ever learn to communicate and connect with others in the future. Will they be able to actually hold a person to person conversation or is text messaging the only way they know how to interact with one another? I hurt for this generation of young ones who have been robbed of the interpersonal relationships that develop only by face to face communication and interaction. And all in the name of progress...but is it really?

  1. 110% AGREE. You know the other thing I often wonder. How many people actually use half the things on their phones etc. My biggest grumble by far though is people who think answering the phone is far more important then the person right in front of them. Let it go to voice mail - you can always call them back - better that then offend the person right in front of you and make them feel that they are not important!!!

  2. I hear ya Bree. I can't tell you how annoyed I have become over this. Everyday on my way home from work I drive past groups of teens walking home from the nearby school and almost every one of them has the Ipod earphones in listening to way to loud music I am sure and has their cell phone glued to their hands and text messaging! They rarely even look up to see where they are going. It is really so sad. I don't even know where my cell phone is half the time! As soon as I get home from work I find it and turn it off for the rest of the day. All my friends and family know not to even bother with that number after hours. So very sad for our kids:(

  3. Technology has totally screwed up the younger generation LOL. My boyfriend Taylor's younger brothers. One's 15 the other 13 are totally messed up. They literally have no friends. They come home from school and from the minute they're home to the minute they go to bed they play the same video game over and over and over. Every single day. And since it's been summer oh my gosh! They wake up at 9 or so and play the same video game over and over until bed time! It's sick! When I was a kid we had video games, the Nintendo64 had come out! But I never stayed inside if there were other kids to play with! Wow. I've known these boys for almost 4 years now and it's always been the same! Sigh..Plus so dangerous with cell phones and driving. At my school students are so oblivious to everything. Every single person walks around campus with a cellphone attached to their head or an ipod. No one talks or pays attention to each other. And! That is the number one way in which kids and girls get attacked! Because they were oblivious and distracted! Scary! Baah lol obviously I share ALL of the same feelings as you!

    All the best,
    Allison

  4. Amen! I had a conversastion with a young lady....while talking to me she texted...all the while! We were out eating at the time too. I finally asked if her Mom had a rule that she not textd during certain times. She looked at me dumb founded and said no. (Jim and I don't have kids yet..so we're told we don't understand..by the parents!!) I explained that back in the day, no phone calls came during dinner or after 9p. She laughingly asked how many times I made calls under the blankets..to her amazement there were only 2 phones in the house...Kitchen and Parents room.
She got the message to my suprise and put the cell away. It's just shows how rude we are all becoming...we, me/myself/& I, are so important that everyone is hanging on our every word...er...text.

  5. I am so glad I am not alone in having these feelings. My husband and I don't have any children but if we did you can be sure I would not stand for this kind of behavior in my home. Kids need communication skills to arrive at adulthood with the ability to function properly and I just don't see that happening. I'm not sure who cares less, the kids or the parents!
