Measure Of A Man.

I had charcoal stains on my fingers for the rest of the night after creating this piece!

  1. Wow ... I love this piece, can you explain the charcoal process a bit more, I'd love to try it.

  2. Using charcoal is really quite easy but it can get a little bit messy. I use the standard charcoal pencils found in any art department. You'll need a black and white one. The first thing you want to do is figure out what direction you want the light to hit the item you are going to shade. If you want the light to come from the left then you shade the right with the black and the left with just a touch of the white. Using your fingers to blend is probably easiest. As you shade your eye will naturally tell you which areas to lighten and darken and if you make a mistake the charcoal pencils have an eraser that works well at removing these. The objective is to just have fun and let your artful eye lead the way.
