Happy Pink Saturday!

Happy pink Saturday to everyone! This week finds me absolutely exhausted and needing to take a break. I did however, manage to get my Etsy shop up and running this week. To see a few of the items I have listed you can check out the side bar. This week's pink Saturday photo showcases some adorable vintage pink drawer pulls that I have listed for sale in the shop.

Also pictured are some of my most favorite of the 40+ roses I have growing in my backyard. They are called "Heaven On Earth" and they are from Jackson and Perkins. Last year I planted three of these "bare root" beauties. I prefer planting roses bare root because you certainly get more bang for your buck as far as I am concerned.

The thing that makes them so beautiful is that they first start out this pretty coral pink after blooming. Then as the days progress they turn into a buttery yellow until finally they turn a light and delicate shade of pink. They are the only rose that I have ever seen do this. They are a "floribunda" rose which means that each stem will produce a spray of at least 4 roses and sometimes more. This means that with one cutting you can get an entire vase full of flowers. They are definitely worth the extra work involved in planting bare root but if you have the chance I suggest you give them a try. Even just one single plant will reward you with many beautiful arrangements for years to come.

  1. What pretty roses :) How crazy that they change colors! To answer your question about where I go shopping LOL it's all over the place. I go to the antique center in Ocean Beach when I am down in San Diego. The cutest store is there called Vignettes. In Orange County I go to Debra's Cottage in Costa Mesa, Goodwill in Lake Forest, Homegoods/TJ Maxx/Marshalls/Ross, another cute store called Just Because that I just discovered yesterday in Lake Forest across from the Homegoods. There is a store in Laguna Niguel right by where I live called Romantic Style. In San Juan Capistrano I go to Los Rios Street and there are a couple cute stores but one you will definitely see is more romantic and shabby. Then there is Nice and Easy antiques in San Clemente. I am not sure where you are in socal but I am only in between those places. I'm not sure if you do, but if you read Romantic Homes magazine they have a section in the back listing tons of stores in California and there you can find a bunch! That's kind of what I did, and I googled shabby chic romantic orange county LOL. But I usually find a lot of neat stuff at antique stores.

    All the best!

  2. Allison, thanks so much for all the great stores to check out! I am in Highland California which is about 45 miniutes outside of LA one way and 45 minutes from Palm Springs the other way. Where can I find the romantic homes mag? I have heard of Nice and Easy antiques because the sisters that own the store follow my blog and that's how I heard about them. You listed so many great places for me to check out that I think I'll just print out your comment to make sure I can remember them all. Thanks a bunch:)

  3. Yeah I know Highland I have a lot of family in Redlands :) I get the Romantic Homes magazine from some of those stores that I go too. It's kind of a specialty magazine but I think I may have seen it at Rite Aid once! Have you heard of Christie Repasy? She does wonderful shabby chic paintings and on her website she has a guide where you can find her work at different shabby chic stores. That is where I found some of the stores also. http://www.christierepasy.com/retail.asp
That is the website there are a bunch of stores all over socal and everywhere! But they are all cottage, romantic or shabby :) There were a few in LA that I remember. Some of them have to sell the magazine :)

    All the best,
    Allison

  4. Thanks Allison, I can't wait to track down a copy. Yeah my husband and I live just 5 minutes from Redlands where they have some great antique stores too. I just love all of the great finds you have put on your site. I feel so bad for your honey if you decide to get married because he won't have even just one square inch of the house to decorate since you already have such awesome stuff. I speak from experience here...my poor husband has one tiny corner of the house where he is "Allowed" to decorate...tee hee! :)
